I. The name of this society will be ART HISTORIANS OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA.
II. PURPOSE. This purpose of this society is to promote knowledge of all aspects of visual culture through the presentation and encouragement of research among its members. It further proposes to encourage graduate training in any field of art, art history, architecture and other aspects of visual culture through mentoring and career development.
III. MEMBERSHIP. Membership is open to any individual residing in, enrolled in schools, or working in Southern California interested in the purpose of the society, regardless of academic affiliation or discipline. Active or voting members are those who have paid current dues to the Secretary-Treasurer of the society. We will actively seek local institutional membership.
IV. AFFILIATION. The society will maintain affiliation with the College Art Association (CAA) on such terms as both determine to be mutually acceptable.
V. ORGANIZATION.
A. Officers. The society will have an Executive Board consisting of President, Vice-president, Secretary-Treasurer and an Editor for on-line information. The last two offices, with permission of the President and Vice-president, may be held by the same individual. The term of office is two years. The Vice-president will move up to the presidency at the end of the Presidents two-year term. Officers will be elected by a simple majority vote of the members present at the annual Society meeting. Results will be posted on the website. All nominations (or self-nomination) can be presented to the President in advance or are made from the floor at the annual meeting.
B. The program chairpersons for the annual meeting shall be the Executive Board. The program chair for the affiliated society session at CAA (College Art Association) will be determined by floor nomination and vote at the annual meeting. The initial program chair will be the President or an individual designated by the President in the first instance. The CAA
session chair in any year will complete her/his duties after the call for papers for the next years session is promulgated.
C. Presenters at the annual AHSC conference must be members of the Society. At the College Art session, presenters must also be members in good standing of CAA.
D. COMMITTEES. At the discretion of the Executive Board, ad hoc committees, with officers, may be established. The officers will clearly define the duties of all such ad hoc committees. The ad hoc committees will inform the members of the society of their actions either through the website or by a presentation at the annual meeting.
VI. MEETINGS.
There will be an annual business meeting of the society to be held in conjunction with the annual conference of the AHSC. Additional meetings may be held in conjunction with the annual meeting of the CAA.
VII. AMENDMENTS AND DISSOLUTION.
Motions to adopt a new constitution for the society, or to amend the existing constitution require a simple majority vote of those present at the meetings. To dissolve the society a motion must be made in writing over the signature of the majority of the society. Such motions will then be submitted to the President, who shall submit them to the membership for acceptance or rejection.
